The success of Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster has proved that Indians love crossover Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV). And more of them are coming.
The next is Hyundai's Creta (ix25), which is now slated to launch on July 21st. That's after the company advanced the production date by a couple of months to target the festive season in India that starts around that time and lasts until October.
"It is a conscious change in strategy by the company. Such a move to advance the launch of a new vehicle is not new for Hyundai. In the past, it proved successful with the launch of Grand i10 last year, when the company was able to soak up the demand of customers in South India on account of Onam festival and Ganesh Chaturti in Western India, which otherwise would have benefited rival carmakers," said Rakesh Srivastava, Sr Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motor India, in this report.
The expected pricing is Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh. Unlike lower-end cars where the airbags are an optional feature, this one will come with 4 of them. Other features include ABS, and daytime LED lights. The top-end variant will have an automatic option that might prove popular, given that currently the price of the lowest automatic version is Rs 25 lakh. Customers can choose between 1.4 litre petrol and 1.6 litre diesel motors.
Hyundai will be hoping that Creta lifts sales. The company is expecting 14 percent growth this year — for sales of 4,65,000 units — after a relatively slower 7.5 percent last year.
