This would send a chill down any woman tourist's spine. Two women, who recently went on a holiday to Goa, were abducted and gangraped by a group of five men who were posing as policemen. All five were arrested by police later after a taxi driver who was driving the women managed to escape.

The incident was reported on Monday evening, when the two women aged 20 and 34 years were reportedly on their way to Anjuna beach. According to reports, five men posing as officers with the CID and narcotics cell of Goa police stopped their cab around 8.45 pm and abducted the women as well as the taxi driver.

They allegedly confined them in two rooms at a studio apartment-style hotel in Calangute till Tuesday morning and assaulted them with wooden sticks, Sunil Garg, Inspector General of Goa Police told The Indian Express.

“The accused took turns to sexually abuse the victims," Garg said, adding that their cellphones were snatched from them and the taxi driver was asked to withdraw cash from an ATM nearby. However, the driver managed to escape and reach a local police station, where he lodged a complaint. Police raided the apartment where the women were held and arrested the accused, who are mostly in their 20s. By the time police reached the place, the men had already let the women go.

The men have been identified as Ajaykumar Kushwaha (39), Jeevan Pawar (26), Nadeem Khan (28), Trebor Joseph (27) and Kamlesh Chaudhary (21). They have been charged with gangrape, kidnapping and robbery.

Goa police were later able to reach the women and send them for medical examination, which confirmed sexual assault.
