We are in trouble! High population growth and rapid economic development are pushing most of the Earth's ecosystems to critical tipping points of depletion. Our rising population is expected to reach 9.6 billion by 2050, and if the current consumption and production patterns remain the same, humans will need three planets the size of the earth.

But activists and tens of thousands of people around the world, who are fighting for the environment in big and small ways, offer a silver lining. Here are eight heart-warming public service messages on saving the environment, which will bring joy and hope to those rooting for the Earth.

Happy Environment Day.
