Kangana Ranaut Is Reportedly Unhappy About A Delayed Film With Sunny Deol Hitting Theatres Soon

Here's Why Kangana Ranaut Is Reportedly Unhappy About Her Next Release, The Long-Delayed 'I Love NY'

Kangana Ranaut is going through a dream phase right now. Her latest release, 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns', has done extremely well at the box-office — it is now on track to become perhaps the most profitable Hindi film of all time. Moreover, her performance has also been universally appreciated.

In a recent chat with Irrfan Khan for film critic Anupama Chopra's YouTube channel, Ranaut spoke candidly about how she is now getting choosier about her roles and plans to do only one film a year from now on.

Hence, it's entirely possible that a Hindustan Times report about her apparently being unhappy with the impending release of 'I Love NY' — a film she acted in that was supposed to release two years ago — in the first week of July could have some truth to it.

Kangana Ranaut – Sunny Deol starrer #ILoveNY to release on 3 July 2015. Produced by T-Series and directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru.

'I Love NY', directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru (the duo that helmed the Salman Khan starrer 'Lucky: No Time For Love' in 2005) is a rom-com that stars Ranaut and Sunny Deol as two strangers who run into each other on New Year's Eve. The final scenes of the film have reportedly been shot in New York City. By the way, the 'NY' in the title stands for 'New Year', and not 'New York'. It was initially supposed to release in April 2013.

An unnamed "insider" quoted in the HT article says, "Kangana is very choosy about the films she chooses now and the direction in which her career should head. That's why she was a bit surprised when she got to know that her film with Sunny is set for a release in July." The article also quoted Bhushan Kumar, head of T-Series (producers of the film) as saying that the release of the film wasn't in his hands since he had "sold the rights of the film to some distributors back then itself."

If the HT report is to be believed, what seems clear is that Ranaut, who recently won her second National Award, is unhappy about being attached to a film that seems to have no commercial prospects nor critical acclaim. It doesn't help that the director duo's last and only outing was a lukewarm affair and Deol, once one of Bollywood's most bankable heroes, is playing out of type and hasn't had a real hit in several years.

But wait, that doesn't mean that the film is going to be bad, does it? Our lips are sealed, but, hey, check out the trailer below and decide for yourselves.
