12-year-old Taiyyaba is like any other pre-teen in UP, except for one thing -- she has always known that she has a hole in her heart. That's how she knows that she always catches colds and cough, and always has to take bitter-tasting medicines.
But Taiyyaba, whose father is a cobbler, hated watching her parents fret over her medical bills and try to make ends meet.
So one day, while watching the TV as usual, a thought struck her -- why not try asking India's Prime Minister for help?
That's when Taiyyaba dug out her school notebook, ripped out a blank sheet and wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi asking for help.
"I have a hole in my heart. My father didn't have money for my operation. I saw on television that PM works for everyone. I deserve to live, too," Taiyyaba told CNN-IBN.
Taiyyba suffers from congenital heart disease which causes abnormality in the structure of the heart and the great vessels, according to ANI.
Imagine her and her family's surprise when they got a letter from the Prime Minister's Office, directing the Chief Secretary in New Delhi to ensure that Taiyyaba receives treatment irrespective of any financial constraints.
"When this girl first came to me four to five years ago, she was diagnosed with congenital heart disease, due to which the valves were defected and the big arteries were not in the right place. Due to this, she often contracts cold and cough, suffers from anaemia, breathlessness and proper growth was not taking place. Her condition required special treatment which is not available in Agra and is quite expensive," her family doctor Dr SK Kalra told ANI.
The Delhi government now has directed the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in the city to initiate Taiyyaba's treatment. Tests conducted so far show that she would recover completely after the treatment, reported ANI.
Meanwhile Taiyyaba, who wants to grow up to be a banker, is all praises for PM Modi. Her parents too, are thankful that the PMO was so prompt in responding to their letter, reported India TV.
