Industrialist Mukesh Ambani, who owns the world's most expensive residential property Antilla, now has an armoured car for his daily commute, registered at a record cost.

Ambani registered his latest acquisition, a gorgeous 7-series BMW, for Rs 1.6 crore at the Motor Vehicles Department in Mumbai, according to Mid Day report.

"The car is a regular BMW 760i which costs Rs 1.9 crore on road. But as per Mr Ambani's Z-category security requirement, it was armoured by BMW Germany. Since the import duty on armoured cars is 300%, the cost of the car ballooned to Rs. 8.5 crore, hence the high registration cost," an RTO official told NDTV on the condition of anonymity.

According to Mid Day, this car is bullet-proof with armour on the chassis as well as windows, and has been specially designed in Germany.

In fact, according to reports, Ambani's Z-category security would cost him around Rs 15 to 16 lakh per month. He was provided with high level security after threats to his life.
