Hatchery Software Pvt. Ltd., that runs messaging app Lookup.to, said it has raised funding from Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. The amount of investment was not disclosed.

“Today, I am overwhelmed and thrilled to welcome Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, as one of our Series A investors and advisors,” said Deepak Ravindran, founder of Bangalore-based Lookup in a company blog. Biz Stone also tweeted about it.

Lookup had earlier raised $382,000 in its seed round this January, from multiple investors including Infosys’ Kris Gopalakrishnan, Teru Sato, DeNA and MKS Group. It was founded in October by Deepak Ravindran, who previously started Innoz, a wireless communications platform.

Lookup is a free messaging app that connects shoppers with local businesses by providing information about products, service and support. Users can also book reservations and appointments through the app by sending their query in a text message. The company says it answers all queries in five minutes.

The company will be using the investment to expand its base of merchants and start operations in new geographies, it said in a statement. It also plans to start a virtual store on its platform for vendors to sell. Since its founding, it claims to have been downloaded 2,00,000 times and answered 3 million queries.
