WhatsApp, the popular Facebook-owned instant messenger app, has received a minor design update in version 2.12.84, released yesterday on Google Play. This is the first significant update after the app rolled out its web-based voice call feature.
While nothing has changed significantly in terms of core functionality, new colour scheme brings it more in line with the Google material design scheme in Android Lollipop.
The main three-tab interface, divided into calls, chats and contacts, resembles the onscreen dialler on a Lollipop device, except for the colour, now a shade of green. The keyboard drawer housing all the emojis now has a white background, there are small tweaks to be noticed in the animations between the panels as well.
You can grab the update on the Google Play Store right away, or wait for it to be updated automatically, based on the state of your phone firmware.
WhatsApp crossed a billion downloads on Android in March this year. A fortnight after they pushed out the calling feature, Jan Kuom, the CEO of the company, announced on Facebook that they had 800 million monthly active users in April.
