Jayalalithaa on Monday said she had emerged as "pure gold" after the Karnataka High Court acquitted her of all charged in the disproportionate assets case.
"The verdict has paved way for me to emerge like tested pure gold," said the 67-year-old former chief minister of Tamil Nadu. "It has helped me emerge as gold further refined by fire."
Alleging that her earlier conviction in the case was a result of political slander, she called the high court's decision on Monday to clear her of all charges a "victory of justice."
"I don't take it as a victory for me but a victory for truth and victory for the people of Tamil Nadu. I thank people of TN for reposing faith on me," she said. "DMK has not been able to win electorally hence they tried to put an end to my career through other ways, finally justice has prevailed," she said of her party's rival political outfit.
Her acquittal will also mark her full-time return to politics. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary was disqualified from holding office due to her conviction in the disproportionate assets case last year in September, making her the first incumbent chief minister to face this.
