Actor Shashi Kapoor To Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award On May 10, Confirms Son
MUMBAI, INDIA: Former Indian film star Shashi Kapoor ( who has acted in several Merchant-Ivory movies) arrives to pay respect to noted film producer and director Ismail Merchant, in Mumbai 28 May 2005. Merchant, famous for such blockbusters as 'In Custody', 'A Room With A View' and 'Howard's End', passed away in a London hospital 25 May. Merchant born in Bombay on 25 December 1936 and educated in the West teamed up with director James Ivory in 1961 to form the acclaimed 'Merchant-Ivory Productions', initially to make English-language theatrical features in India for the international market. A man of many talents, Merchant was also a renowned chef and author of several cookbooks, including 'Ismail Merchants Indian Cuisine'. MUMBAI — Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor will be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award at Prithvi Theatre here on Sunday, his son Kunal has confirmed.

"Yes, my father will be awarded by Dadasaheb Phalke on May 10. There will be a special ceremony and the event will take place in the first half of the day," Kunal told IANS.

The Kapoor family has also prepared an audio-visual, which will be screened at the event. All members of Kapoor family will reportedly attend the event.

Bollywood's heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor and nephew of Shashi Kapoor had narrated the journey of the veteran actor-producer in the showbiz through a special video screened at the 62nd National Film Awards ceremony in the capital on May 3 when his uncle was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2014.

Due to Shashi Kapoor's ill health, he could not travel to the capital for the award ceremony.
