NEW DELHI -- The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has summoned Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas on the basis of a complaint filed by a party volunteer alleging molestation, an official of the DCW said here on Monday.
"Kumar Vishwas has been summoned to state his stand on the allegations made by his party volunteer. We have asked him to appear before us tomorrow," said an official of the DCW. He is expected to appear on Tuesday at the DCW office.
"The volunteer had worked for a year in Amethi for the party and now it is a matter of her respect, and so Kumar Vishwas should turn up and give his clarification," the official said.
However, sources from Kumar Vishwas camp said he had not received any summons or notice in this connection from the DCW or any other commission.
A female volunteer of the AAP had alleged molestation by Kumar Vishwas during campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections in Amethi.
Meanwhile the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday lashed out at the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the allegations against Vishwas and alleged that all leaders of the ruling party in Delhi would gradually be exposed.
BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay said the AAP leaders are not at all dedicated to politics and are least bothered about serving the people.
"They are of no use in politics. They took advantage of the atmosphere that prevailed in the nation and formed the government," said Upadhyay.
"The truth is that gradually the character of all the AAP leaders would be exposed," he added.
Upadhyay used the occasion to take a jibe at Delhi's Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar presently in the midst of a controversy for his alleged fake degree.
The BJP leader also highlighted the suicide of a farmer during the AAP's rally against Land Ordinance at the Jantar Mantar here last month to target the ruling party in Delhi.
Vishwas has been accused of a physical relationship with a volunteer in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Vishwas had unsuccessfully contested against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in the general elections.
According to reports, the victim's husband has threatened to divorce her.
The victim, who has been living alone for the past one month, has reportedly alleged that Vishwas's wife has been spreading rumours that she found him in an uncompromising position with the poet-turned politician. She has also alleged that she is being defamed on the social media.
AAP meanwhile dismissed the allegations as "baseless".
"The issue has been played up as if Kumar Vishwas has illicit relations with the woman. The woman herself has named four people for maligning her image on social media," AAP leader Sanjay Singh told the media.
"Spare our families... They get hurt by such baseless reports," he said.
