'Gabbar Is Back' opened last Friday to mixed critical response (check out our review), but that didn't stop the Akshay Kumar starrer from having 2015's best opening at the box-office.

On Saturday, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted emphatically:

#GabbarIsBack Fri ₹ 13.05 cr. India biz. HIGHEST OPENER of 2015 so far [Hindi films].

— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) May 2, 2015

BoxOfficeIndia.com noted that the film's occupancy, pegged at 40%, was mainly due to the holiday that some regions had on Friday.

The film, which is a 'masala entertainer' about an anti-corruption vigilante named Gabbar, has ended up with a good chance of being 2015's first real hit, according to a new report on BoxOfficeIndia.com. With a total haul of Rs 38.50 crore (minus final figures from Mumbai) and Monday being a holiday on account of Buddh Purnima. According to the report, the movie has "an outside chance of being that first real hit of the year with probably the window being the major hurdle."

The "window" here refers to the fortnight before Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Bombay Velvet', one of the most anticipated movies of 2015, releases on May 15.
