Meerkat, the live video streaming app beat Twitter’s Periscope to Android devices by releasing their app on Friday on Google Play store.

Meerkat, like its competitor Periscope was previously available on iOS devices. The app needs a Twitter account to login and requires your GPS settings to be enabled.

It’s very much in beta mode — we tested it on a couple of Android devices, and were greeted with the message ‘Your connection is too weak to stream. Try from another location’

The app auto-tweets on your behalf on Twitter, and lets you watch streams from other users. The app has seen over 100,000 downloads in less than 24 hours, but the user ratings are below par - with an average of 2.6 stars.

Founded in 2012, Meerkat has raised 4 rounds of funding, the last was a Series B where the company raised $14 million at a valuation of $52 million.
