BALLIA — A 23-year-old orchestra dancer was today shot dead by a man after she allegedly refused to perform on a vernacular song on the demand of the audience during a marriage function in Baria area here, a senior police officer said.

Piyu, a native of Chaubis Pargana district in West Bengal, was shot dead in the wee hours by one Babloo Kumar Singh, when she refused to perform on a song during a marriage function in Daya Chappra village, Additional Superintendent of Police KC Goswami said.

He said that accused Babloo has been arrested, adding, the victim's body has been sent for postmortem.
