Micromax has introduced a new affordable Android smartphone called the Canvas Spark for Rs. 4,999.

The smartphone will retail on a flash sale basis on Snapdeal, with registrations starting today, until 27th April.

The 3G enabled phone is fitted with a 4.7-inch qHD display, quad core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. The phone the latest version of Android, Vodafone users can avail of 2 months of 3G browsing for two months.

Micromax hopes to take on feature phone manufacturers with the Canvas Spark, which outsell smartphones by a factor of five, according to Mr Vineet Taneja, CEO, Micromax Informatics Ltd.

“Around 70mn Indians are upgrading to smartphone annually driven by the need to get connected to mobile internet. If we look at the current scenario, only 2mn smartphones sold monthly are under Rs 5,000/- vs. over 10mn feature phones which presents a huge opportunity to upgrade through a new offering.” he said in a press statement.

The Canvas Spark will be available in two colours — white and gold, silver and grey. The phone is pre-loaded with apps from Hotstar, Newshunt, Saavn, Snapdeal, PayTM, and Quickr.
