Union Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani has filed a report with the Goa police after finding a camera in the changing room of FabIndia, a major apparel and home furnishing retailer according to TV reports.

Irani, 39, was in the store in Candolim around 12:30 pm today, and spotted the camera in one of the trial rooms. She complained to the manager, and called up the local Bharatiya Janata Party legislator who then filed a report with the police on her behalf. A case was registered for outraging a woman's modesty, and police has seized computer records and hard disk drives of the store.

Michael Lobo, the BJP MLA, said that the camera was there for the last four months.

"We saw the recording for last 20 minutes and everything in the room was captured," said local BJP MLA Michael Lobo on NDTV. "This can be of huge damage to a woman." Lobo said he would be talking to top police officials this weekend.

Irani, who is on a two-day break in Goa, was shopping with her family at the store and spotted the camera with its lens facing the changing room, Lobo said.

"Everything above navel could be seen; clearly installed to watch a woman naked," Lobo told the channel and added that the police will check other stores too.

"In Goa, we hold women very highly, this is unacceptable," he said.

Irani immediately alerted her husband who raised the issue with the management at the store. She called Lobo at his residence who arrived at the store and decided to alert the police.

Goa has a BJP government.
