Contradicting a report filed by Mumbai-based tabloid MiD-DAY, official sources from the Surat Police have said that there was no FIR (First Information Report) filed against actress Sunny Leone.
As per the report, which was subsequently picked up by various publications including India Today, Leone was in Surat to promote her upcoming film 'Ek Paheli Leela' along with husband Daniel Weber, co-star Jay Bhanushali, and the film's director Bobby Khan. However, the trip reportedly turned disastrous very quickly, with a last-minute change of venue from one five-star hotel to another.
The report also claimed that an unnamed local filed an FIR against the former adult star, on grounds that she had come to the city for a different reason. This reason was revealed to be the fear of a repeat of a fictitious party from last April, which supposedly involved Leone dancing topless at a private party hosted by a Surat-based diamond merchant.
It was subsequently revealed that those pictures were from a 2012 party in Macau, China, when Leone was still part of the adult industry.
When HuffPost India attempted to verify the information in the MiD-DAY report by calling the Surat police control room, assistant sub-inspector Prabhakar said, "This report cannot be true because if such a big thing would've happened, we would've 99% known about it by now." Repeated calls to four other police stations in Surat yielded the same result: all police officers who answered our calls said that they had no idea about any FIR being lodged against the Indo-Canadian actress.
Looks like Leone's fans can breathe easy.
