It may be hard to imagine this, but there's a chance that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) may not participate in the eighth edition of the Indian Premiere League (IPL). With the latest edition of the IPL ready to begin on April 8, the tournament is already surrounded by an aura of controversy.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the KKR are on a warpath with the the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the West Indian spinner Sunil Narine's participation in the IPL.

In 2014, Narine was banned from playing for his suspect action during the Champions League Twenty20, and was therefore barred from playing in the final match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which the KKR lost.

According to media reports, Narine has since then got a "modified action" cleared by an International Cricket Council-approved biomechanical assessment centre in Loughborough, UK. But the Mirror reports that the BCCI has refused to accept that report and has insisted that the off-spinner undergo another test in Chennai.

The KKR, which is also owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, is now contemplating legal action against BCCI, and even thinking of not participating in the tournament, if Narine is not allowed to play. Mirror reports that the KKR officials have now written to BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya, seeking his intervention.

Mirror reports that the matter has reached the BCCI and that a decision is likely to be taken over the next 24 hours to 48 hours.
