Ravi's family has rejected the police's initial assessment that his death was a suicide. They have demanded a probe by the CBI. Protest have rocked Karnataka, where outraged locals are also demanding an inquiry into the death of the 36-year-old officer, who had a reputation for taking on the sand mafia and the real estate mafia.
The state government has ordered a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), ANI reported.
Indian Express reported that on the day Ravi died, he called a 2009 IAS batch-mate 44 times in the span of an hour. The woman IAS officer, who has known Ravi since their IAS training days, has been approached by the police as part of the probe.
Correction: An earlier version of this story, based on an ANI report, incorrectly reported that Ravi's grandmother passed away. It was his aunt.
