KARACHI — Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan has said that ace spinner Saeed Ajmal could substitute injured towering pace bowler Mohammad Irfan, if Misbah-ul-Haq's men progress into the World Cup semifinal.

Earlier on Tuesday, Irfan was ruled out of the Pakistan's World Cup squad due to a stress fracture to his pelvis.

Reflecting on a possible replacement, Shaharyar said that no replacement would be sent for Friday's quarterfinal clash against Australia, adding that Ajmal could be sent in as a replacement if Pakistan proceeds to the semifinal, the Express Tribune reported.

The PCB chief, however, said that it was up to the team management who they ask as a replacement for Irfan.

Ajmal was cleared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on February 7, after tests cleared his remodelled bowling action.
