DUBAI — A 54-year-old Indian expat has lost 32 kilograms to win a gram of gold for every kilo she lost.
Sharada Serigara, an Indian businesswoman who lives in Dubai, became the winner for "Your Child in Gold" competition in the United Arab Emirates. She won gold worth 4380 Dirhams (roughly Rs 75,000).
"There was no secret to my feat. It was all about diet and exercise and the determination to get healthy," Serigara told a local paper.
Serigara weighed 96 kilograms before she entered the competition, and within two months managed to shed 32 kgs. The entire family reportedly took part in the competition, and her younger daughter lost 14 kgs.

The competition, organised by the Dubai Municipality, saw participation from more than 25,000 people from 110 nations residing in the UAE. You could win a gram of gold for each kilo of weight lost. Children were offered double the prize.
The youngest participant was reportedly a four-month-old baby.
In the end, 2648 people were awarded 16.823 kilograms of gold.
Another Indian, Somesh Sudip Rabindranath, won the child category. The class 10 student lost 12 kgs.
