A local Mumbai court on Thursday ordered the police to issue FIRs against the organisers of the All India Bakchod Roast, and also the Bollywood celebrities, who participated in the online comedy show, including Karan Johar, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor.

The court acted on a petition by social activist Santosh Daundkar, who said said the program was a "commercial, vulgar, obscene and pornographic show."

The controversial show, filled with risqué jokes and sexual innuendos, which the private and public lives of Bollywood celebrities, has divided the public and the film industry. Aamir Khan, for instance, said the show was more violent than funny.

"I felt it was a very violent event. Violence is not only physical, it can be verbal and emotional too. When you insult someone, you perpetuate violence," Khan said.

But Khan also said warned against a "witch-hunt."

"Have they broken a law or have they not, I am not going into that technicality. If they have broken a law, they should face the consequences like you and I. The law is for all of us. If the haven't broken the law they should have gone scot-free. I believe that the law should take its course," he said.

The news of the FIRs sparked reactions on social media.
