Motorola’s popular entry-level Android smartphone, the Moto E has got a price cut of Rs1000, and is now priced at Rs 5,999 on its e-commerce store Flipkart.

The price cuts follow recent leaks that hint at a newer version of the Motorola E will be launched at MWC in Barcelona in March. The new Moto E may add a front-facing camera and Android Lollipop 5.0 support in addition to LTE connectivity.

Released in 2014 May, the Moto E is a dual-sim Android with a 4.3-inch 540x960 pixel resolution display, a dual-core Cortex A7 processor, 1GB internal RAM, and 4GB of storage, expandable to 32 GB via MicroSD card. The Moto E runs on 2G and 3G networks, and has a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 1980 mAh battery.

The Moto E runs on v4.4.4 (KitKat), Motorola is conducting soak tests for Android Lollipop in India, and has invited Motorola’s users on its official Facebook page. If the soak test works without any glitches, the update will be released over-the air for Moto E users.

At a press conference in Bangalore last week, Motorola India General Manager Amit Boni announced sales of 3 million units, with the Moto E and Moto G making up 80-85 per cent of sales. Motorola currently sells the Moto E, Moto G, Moto X and the Moto 360 smart watch in India exclusively through Flipkart.
