Ghaziabad: A woman here has approached the State Women Commission alleging that she was raped by Inspector General of Police (civil defense) Amitabh Thakur, a charge refuted by his wife who sought an inquiry into the allegation.

The IGP, who is posted in Lucknow, and his social activist wife Nutan Thakur today met SWC chairperson Zarina Usmani and Director General of Police Arun Kumar Gupta to appraise them of the facts and demanded an inquiry into the matter, Nutan said in an email statement.

When IGP Thakur was contacted with regard to the allegation, his wife Nutan alleged that they were being harassed ever since she had filed a PIL in Allahabad High Court regarding the case of Yadav Singh, the suspended chief engineer of Noida authority and investigation of cases of engaging child labour in Hindon river area by her husband.

"After the investigation by my husband into the matter of engaging child labour at Hindon river area in Ghaziabad, and a PIL filed by me in Allahabad high court regarding the case of Yadav Singh, we are facing several problems like theft of jewellery and cash, also we are getting life threatening calls for which we have lodged FIRs," Nutan said.

"Now a woman, who is related to a Samajwadi Party leader, has levelled false allegation of rape against my husband which is awful," she said.
