'Haider', Shahid Kapoor Win Big At Screen Awards

Bollywood's First Best Couple Award To An On-Screen 'Mother-Son' Pair

Actors Tabu and Shahid Kapoor won the Best ‘Jodi’ (couple) Award for their performances in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Haider’ – a Hindi adaptation of Hamlet – at last night’s 21st annual Screen Awards at Bandra Kurla Complex. Interestingly, the duo won the award for portraying the roles of a mother and son respectively, beating scores of Bollywood couples.

IBNLive reported that Kapoor won two more awards for his role in the film: Best Actor and the Life Ok Hero (Male) Award. Tabu shared the Best Supporting Actress Award with Seema Pahwa for ‘Ankhon Dekhi’. ‘

‘Haider’ also won the Best Production Design, while Rajat Kapoor received the Best Story award for ‘Ankhon Dekhi’.

Priyanka Chopra was adjudged the Best Actress of 2014 for her formidable role in her biopic movie ‘Mary Kom’, while Vikas Bahl’s ‘Queen’ won him the Best Director award, while was also the best film of 2014.

Legendary actress Hema Malini was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award by Shah Rukh Khan, and debutant actor Tiger Shroff, bagged the Best Promising Newcomer (Male) for his film 'Heropanti', received the Best Promising Newcomer (Male) while Best Promising Newcomer (Female) went to Patralekhaa for 'Citylights'.

Red Carpet appearances and performances by Bollywood’s top stars marked the high points of the evening. Actor Shah Rukh Khan stole the show wearing a classic tuxedo, and making a grand stage entry riding a bike, while suspended mid-air. Khan also on the Best Actor (Male) - Popular Choice for 'Happy New Year', while his co-star Deepika Padukone was voted Best Actor (Female) - Popular Choice.

Priyanka Chopra, according to Pink Villa was seen sporting a pale pink Gauri & Nainika gown replete with a side bun, earrings by Outhouse from Minerali and a ring from Farah Khan Ali. Sonam Kapoor’s outfit was an elegant eye opener: The actress went Indian, sporting her soon-to-be-released ‘Dolly Ki Doli’ look in a brilliant pink lehenga.

The award function will be telecast Jan 25 on Life OK channel.
