In a chilling reminder of the Delhi gang rape on Dec. 16, 2012, another woman has been gang raped, brutalised and killed in India's capital at the start of the New Year.

The woman's semi-naked body was found in a government nursery on Saturday morning. A stick was inserted into her private parts, the police said, according to media reports. The victim was found in the bushes with her hands and legs tied up. The crime was committed in the upscale locality of Vasant Kunj in South Delhi. She was a resident of Fatehpurberi in South Delhi.

"The victim was gang raped before being murdered. It seems that the accused had also sodomised her and inserted wooden sticks inside her private parts before strangulating her to death," a police official told the IANS newswire.

The woman's age varied from 30 to 40-years-old in media reports on Sunday. NDTV said that she was a mother of three children, who was the sole earning member of the family. Her husband, a security guard, met with an accident in 2014. She did embroidery work in a factory.

The woman was reportedly missing since Friday night.

This episode of sexual violence comes a month after the outcry against the rape of a young executive by an Uber cab driver in Delhi. India marked the second anniversary of the brutal gang rape of a 23-year-old student in a moving bus, which led to nationwide protests against the horrific condition of women's safety in India.

NDTV reported that the police have detained some workers from the factory for questioning, and they are looking for a man who would often escort the woman back home for safety.
