As hectic negotiations continue in Jammu & Kashmir over the new government formation, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), is taking it slow. Entering into the fifth day of negotiations since the election result, PDP has chosen to be cautious, and is even willing to wait longer if required.
“It’s a very tough call. We will take time,” party spokesman Nayeem Akhter told Hindustan Times. The party wouldn’t mind a few days of governor’s rule “if arriving at a decision takes time”, he said.
Meanwhile party president Mehbooba Mufti said that any decision taken by the PDP would reflect the best political and economic interested of the people of J&K.
"I want to assure my party cadres and the people that whatever decision is to be taken will be taken in the larger interest of the State and its people. The mandate given by the people to the PDP to represent the political aspirations and economic interests of all the regions and sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir would be represented and valued in adequate measure," she said.
Speaking for the first time since the election results were declared last Tuesday, Mufti warned against "wild speculations."
"In the prevailing hazy political scenario, unqualified comments in the media only add to the confusion and fuel wild speculations. As a responsible political party PDP will take not only its cadres but the people of the State on board before arriving on any decision regarding the future course of action", she said.
