People's Democratic Party MLA Ashraf Mir was shown firing shots from an AK-47 rifle on TV. The incident happened outside his house, after supporters cheered him on for winning the election.

Mir defeated outgoing chief minister Omar Abdullah by 4,000 votes from Sonawar assembly seat in this week's election results in Jammu and Kashmir.

It was not clear at the time of writing whether the rifle belonged to him or a security officer.

The PDP is said to be negotiating with the BJP to form the next government in the state.
